American Airlines and Earth Share have partnered to provide American’s more than 115,000 employees with the opportunity to pledge a small amount of each paycheck to help groups focused on environmental preservation. Through these donations, Earth Share provides funding to members of its federation, composed of dozens of America’s leading nonprofit environmental and conservation organizations.

"American Airlines is proud to provide our employees with the opportunity to financially support a wide range of environmental and conservation groups through our partnership with Earth Share," said Genie Jones, managing director of American’s Environmental Department. "This demonstrates the commitment American’s employees have to preserve and protect our environment at the local, national, and global levels."

Earth Share is one of a number of groups that American Airlines employees can support through the AmericanCares program, including America’s Charities, Community Health Charities, International Service Agencies, United Way, or any approved 501(c)(3) organization. In the 2000 annual drive,

American employees raised more than $3 million to support these federations and more than 50,000 agencies that fall under their umbrella.

"Through the efforts of environmentally concerned employees of industry leaders such as American Airlines, Earth Share donations have provided more than $8 million annually to our member organizations," said Kalman Stein, president of Earth Share. "Our goal is to continue to expand opportunities for working people to have an easy and effective way to help the environment, and in doing so, help ensure the preservation of our natural heritage."

Member organizations of Earth Share include such diverse environmental groups as the Clean Water Fund, National Audubon Society, Sierra Club Foundation, the Trust for Public Land and the World Wildlife Fund.

American Airlines demonstrates its commitment to balanced environmental stewardship through a wide range of environmentally friendly initiatives.
