Abbott Only U.S.-based Fortune 100 Health Care Manufacturer to Be Listed on Both North America and World Indexes

ABBOTT PARK, IL - Sept. 4, 2008 – Abbott, the global health care company, announced today that it was recognized on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index for the fourth consecutive year. This selection recognizes Abbott's continued global leadership in economic, environmental and social performance.

Abbott was the only U.S.-based, Fortune 100-ranked health care manufacturer in its category to be listed on both the North America and World Indexes. Fortune 100 magazine rankings are based on company revenues and reported annually.

Dow Jones Sustainability's annual review considers sustainability leaders from each industry on a global and regional level. The DJSI indexes involve thorough analyses of corporate governance, risk management, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labor practices. The indexes account for general and industry-specific sustainability criteria for each of 57 industries defined according to the Industry Classification Benchmark.

Market participants around the world watch the results of the annual review of the DJSI family closely. Currently, asset managers in 16 countries have licensed the indexes to manage a variety of sustainability-driven portfolios.

As a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, Abbott is among the top 10 percent of the 2,500 largest companies worldwide in terms of sustainability.
