Alcoa Employees Selected to Assist Leading Environmental Scientists with Earthwatch Institute's Field Research Projects

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 2006--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that 15 of its employees have been selected to assist in scientific field research studies around the world with leading environmental scientists from Earthwatch Institute, the global volunteer organization that works toward a sustainable environment by engaging people through research, conservation and education based programs.

The selected employees work at Alcoa locations around the world and will travel in the coming months to Earthwatch Institute research sites where they will assist teams of scientists with on-going research projects on critical environmental issues.

The Alcoa Earthwatch Fellows nominate themselves for selection and are selected on merit by a team of judges from Alcoa and Earthwatch Institute. All travel and accommodation costs are paid, and the fellows use their available vacation time to participate on the projects for up to two weeks under the guidance of leading environmental scientists. Alcoa provides a grant to Earthwatch to support research projects where the Alcoa employees are participating.
