PITTSBURGH- Alcoa (NYSE:AA) today announced it has been named one of the top 50 U.S. employers for minorities in a Fortune magazine special section that appears in the August 22, 2005 edition of the leading business publication produced by Fortune Custom Projects.

The list of the top 50 U.S. employers for minorities was based on research conducted by SmartRevenue, a market research firm, who surveyed Fortune 1000 companies and the 200 largest privately held U.S. companies.

Companies were asked comprehensive questions on topics ranging from compensation, managerial diversity, board of director composition, workforce composition and CEO commitment to diversity. U.S. workforce data was analyzed for 2004. The rankings are derived from a model that weighs data-driven information as well as other questions in various categories.

"It is important for Alcoa to attract and retain the best talent in the 43 countries in which we operate. We respect different ideas and cultures and believe diverse work teams are effective. We are delighted to be included on this list recognizing good diversity practices," said Paul Thomas, Alcoa executive vice president People, Culture and Alcoa Business System.
