Alcoa and USWA Hold Constructive Meeting to Discuss Grievances; to Meet Again Shortly

PITTSBURGH - Alcoa and the United Steelworkers of America Union (USWA) jointly announced today that they held constructive meetings today in Pittsburgh regarding grievances at Alcoa U.S. Master Agreement operating facilities, which have resulted in "five day notices". Both parties have agreed to meet again to continue discussions as soon as schedules can be arranged.

Union members at Alcoa plants in Alcoa, Tennessee; Evansville, Indiana; Rockdale, Texas; and Davenport, Iowa each asked for five days of talks with Alcoa management in July regarding grievances primarily involving subcontracting. The plants continue to operate as usual, meeting customer requirements.

A USWA-sponsored team has reviewed the grievances from the four facilities to determine common concerns and issues and that is the subject of the meetings between the two parties.

The five-day talk notices will continue to be on hold with no meetings scheduled. If Alcoa and the USWA are unable to reach agreement on the issues, the local union at each of the Alcoa plants can resume the normal process of five-day notice.
