Alcoa today joined the United States Environment Protection Agency's (EPA) voluntary Climate Leaders program as a charter partner. Participation in the Climate Leaders program complements voluntary agreements Alcoa already has in place with the governments of Quebec and Australia, and reinforces the commitment Alcoa has made to achieving significant, global reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
In 2000 Alcoa announced its 20-year strategic environmental plan which included commitment to 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the 1990 base-line by 2010.
