For Bank One Corporation employees, company benefits are like money in the bank. Now, the benefits have put the bank in the Money – and Working Mother – magazines.

Money magazine recently chose Bank One as one of the top 50 companies in the Fortune 100 that offer leading benefits, particularly for retirement, health, stock options and insurance. The magazine’s survey, published in the September issue, includes Bank One in its review of “America’s Best Company Benefits.” For the second consecutive year, Working Mother magazine selected Bank One as one of the country’s 100 Best Employers for working mothers.

“Our employees are our most valuable competitive resource,” said James Dimon, chairman and CEO of Bank One, the nation’s fourth largest bank holding company. “We continue to invest in worklife initiatives and provide high-quality benefits so we can continue to recruit and retain exceptional employees in today’s competitive workplace.”

Bank One offers its 82,500 employees an array of outstanding benefits such as medical, dental, retirement, stock-purchase, tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance, wellness programs and flexible work options.

“About two-thirds of our employees are women, making family-friendly initiatives an essential part the bank’s total benefits program,” said Tim Moen, head of human resources. “By easing the stress on parents, family-friendly programs reduce absenteeism and turnover while increasing employee retention and productivity, helping us serve customers better.” Bank One recently announced additional benefits for next year, including domestic partner benefits and a group legal services plan that gives employees access to an affordable network of more than 7,000 attorneys.

Bank One’s family-friendly worklife initiatives include:

Flexible Work Options

Employees in many units across the company this year can request a flexible work schedule that fits their family and personal needs while making sure customers are served well. For example, “flex time” allows a standard workweek to be tailored to the employee’s schedule, with flexible daily start and end times.

Also, employees can telecommute, job share (with two employees sharing one full-time position) or compress the job schedule by working fewer days with longer hours.

Worklife and Flexible Work Design Services

Bank One helps employees locate child care services or schools close to the employee’s home or work location.

Also, Bank One operates a child care center at its First USA credit card facility in Elgin, Ill., and offers back up/emergency child care programs for employees in Chicago and Wilmington, Del. In Chicago, the centers responded to 1,300 requests for back up/emergency child care last year.

Wellness Initiatives

The company operates nine wellness centers, and this year is expanding the number of health seminars, such as smoking cessation, weight watchers and cholesterol education. Several locations offer free health screening, mammography testing and lactation rooms equipped with pumps and refrigerators.

Prenatal Education

Employees who participate in a prenatal education program can receive $200 in related insurance benefits following the birth of the baby. The company’s wellness program has helped women reduce the number of low birth weight babies or caesarian deliveries over the past few years.
Working Mother magazine has named Bank One and its predecessor companies (First Chicago NBD Corp. and First Chicago Corp.) to its 100 Best Employers list for six of the past seven years.

Bank One Corporation is the nation’s 4th largest bank holding company, with assets of more than $270 billion. Bank One offers a full range of financial services to commercial and business customers and consumers. Information about Bank One can be accessed on the Internet at www.bankone.com.
