Best Buy Delivers $5 Million in Computers to 'Reboot and Rebuild' Mississippi, Louisiana Schools

Best Buy has delivered $5 million in new computer equipment into Mississippi and Louisiana for the states' K-12 schools. The deliveries mark the final phase of an $8 million relief package to help schools damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, as well as schools nationwide that enrolled students displaced by the storms.

"We see classroom technology - namely, computers - as a critical, necessary means to help students succeed while our communities recover and rebuild," said Brad Anderson, vice chairman and CEO, Best Buy.
"Our employees and their families live and work in these neighborhoods, towns, and parishes and we are committed to help strengthen the education options for our kids."

With the support of the Mississippi Department of Education, Best Buy provided 2,056 Gateway computers and 102 Samsung printers to the Bay St. Louis-Waveland School District; Biloxi Public Schools; the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi; Gulfport School District; Hancock County School District; Jackson County Public Schools; Ocean Spring School District; Pascagoula School District; Pass Christian School District; Picayune School District; and Poplarville School District.

Working with the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Louisiana Department of Education, Best Buy also provided 5,000 Gateway computers and 250 Samsung printers to the Archdiocese of New Orleans; Bogalusa Parish School District; Cameron Parish School District; Jefferson Parish School District; Orleans Parish School District; Plaquemines Parish School District; St. Bernard Parish School District; Vermillion Parish School District; and Washington Parish School District.

Since October 1, Best Buy has additionally given nearly $3 million in te@ch Emergency Response awards to K-12 schools across the U.S.
with increased enrollment of students displaced by the hurricanes. The awards, in amounts up to $5,000 per school, were given to schools as Best Buy gift cards to be applied toward improving the classroom experience for all children.

Overall, Best Buy donations for hurricane relief reached $10 million; Best Buy matched $2 million in in-store and online donations in fall 2005 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
