MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 2005--Beginning September 1, more than 690 Best Buy stores across the nation will accept cash donations for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in support of victims of Hurricane Katrina. The public can donate at any U.S. Best Buy store register in any dollar amount; no purchase is necessary. Donations will be accepted through September 30, 2005. The Best Buy Children's Foundation will match donations up to $1 million.

"Our hearts are with everyone trying to recover from Katrina's devastation," said Brad Anderson, vice chairman and CEO, Best Buy. "We know our employees and customers want to give, and we are helping to make it easy for them."

The generosity of Best Buy customers has been consistently demonstrated in times of need. In response to the Dec. 26, 2004 tsunami, customer donations to the Red Cross at Best Buy store registers exceeded $1 million. And during the 2004 Toys for Teens drive, customers donated approximately 150,000 gifts and more than $250,000 to the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots Foundation for teenagers in need.

About Best Buy's Community Commitment

As a community partner, Best Buy works to encourage ideas and to confront challenges. Through its many philanthropic activities, Best Buy extends its support in times of celebration and in times of need.

Last year Best Buy and the Best Buy Children's Foundation donated $19 million to its communities (approximately 1.5 percent of its prior fiscal year's pretax earnings). The company encourages local volunteerism by providing charitable gifts to organizations where employees volunteer, awards annual scholarships to graduating high-school seniors, and supports schools using technology to enhance learning through the Best Buy te@ch program. The company also connects with the United Way to meet local community needs, works with the Red Cross to provide support in times of disaster, and supports national organizations innovatively using technology in youth education. In addition, Best Buy is committed to environmental responsibility. Last year, the company collected and recycled nearly 1 million pounds of used and obsolete electronic items though special mass collection events and everyday collection of cellular phones, ink jet cartridges and rechargeable batteries.
