CIGNA Named as Top Employer for Working Mothers

CIGNA has been ranked as one of the
best companies for working mothers, according to Working Mother magazine.
This is the ninth consecutive year that CIGNA has been on the list of the top
100 companies for working mothers.
CIGNA earned a place on this prestigious list with several additions to
its work/life programs including a new program for expectant parents called
"CIGNA Babies". The program provides a single source of information,
combining CIGNA benefits and health tips, to support families through
pregnancy and the baby's first year of life. Improved communication also was
important; the company developed a new Intranet-based employee resource called
"CIGNA and You", which places customized benefit information at the fingertips
of employees.
In addition, CIGNA continues to lead the telecommuting trend; 3,000 work
at home arrangements were established this year. In some cases, work at home
arrangements save CIGNA employees an hour per day in commuting time which adds
up to almost 30 more days of personal time per year.
For several years, Working Mother magazine has honored the country's most
innovative workplaces that implement and promote policies friendly to families
and women. The list is published in the current October issue of Working
Mother.
Companies are selected and ranked in categories using the following
criteria: compensation, advancement opportunities for women, number of women
in executive positions, childcare support and other family-friendly benefits.
"We are truly honored to be recognized once again as one of the best
companies for working mothers," said Donald M. Levinson, CIGNA's executive
vice president of human resources. "CIGNA works hard to develop workplace
programs to help women find balance and success in their business and personal
lives. Our programs have proven time and time again to be a great way to
enable people to be their best -- both at home and at work."
Among the family-friendly programs initiated by CIGNA are telecommuting,
job-sharing, on-site childcare, nursing mothers' rooms, on-site health care
and a take-home meal service.
"Our programs are created to benefit all of our employees. While working
mothers and single parents may especially value the programs we have
developed, we are proud that all of our employees can benefit from our
initiatives to balance work/life issues," said Levinson.
CIGNA Corporation's (NYSE: CI) subsidiaries are leading providers of
employee benefits in the United States. Their products and services include
managed and indemnity health care coverage; group life, accident and
disability insurance; retirement services; and investment management. They
also offer life insurance and employee benefits in selected international
markets. As of March 31, 2000, CIGNA Corporation had consolidated assets of
$97 billion and shareholders' equity of $5.8 billion. Full-year 1999 revenues
from continuing operations totaled $18.8 billion.
