Woonsocket, Rhode Island: The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust, the private foundation managed by CVS Corporation, announced today that it is extending the application deadline for its 2006 grants from the original deadline of June 15 to June 30. The decision to extend the deadline was made because of the tremendous response to this year's call for applications. The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust focuses its resources on programs that support children with disabilities. "We're delighted with this year's very strong response to our call for grant applications," said Eileen Howard Dunn, Vice President of the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust. "As a result, we expect to award grants to a wider group of organizations than ever before, including many new charities in new markets that have not previously asked for our support. It is the CVS vision to help people live longer, healthier and happier lives and the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust helps us to do that in the communities where we do business."

In the past five years, the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust has awarded grants totaling more than $7 million to nearly 200 organizations. Among receiving organizations have been Braille Institute of America (Los Angeles, CA), Partners for Youth with Disabilities (Boston, MA) and Space Coast Early Intervention Center (Melbourne, FL).

Since 2001, the Trust has given approximately $4 million in grants to support pharmacy schools around the country. It also provides ongoing support to the CVS Corporate Scholarship Program for children of full-time CVS associates and to the CVS Volunteer Challenge Grant Program, which donates funds to community organizations for which CVS associates volunteer. In 2005, the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust donated funds to disaster relief efforts for both the South Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina.

The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust, Inc. is a private foundation managed by CVS Corporation (NYSE: CVS), which operates more than 6,100 retail and specialty pharmacy stores in 44 states and the District of Columbia in addition to its online pharmacy, CVS.com, and its pharmacy benefit management, mail order and specialty pharmacy subsidiary, PharmaCare.
