Woonsocket, Rhode Island - The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust, the private foundation managed by CVS Corporation, announced today that it has awarded more than one million dollars in grant funds to 31 non-profit organizations across the United States.

Organizations that were selected to receive a grant were chosen through the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust's 2005 grant application process. Grants were awarded to organizations involved in children's health and education issues, with a particular focus on initiatives to improve the lives of children with disabilities and programs that promote awareness and inclusion of children with disabilities.

"Grants from the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust are an effective way for us to give back to the communities where we do business. By focusing our support on programs that help children with disabilities, we will make a more meaningful impact on an underserved need in our community. These grants will help ensure that children with disabilities have the opportunity to reach their greatest potential and succeed in life," said Eileen Howard Dunn, Vice President of the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust.

For the past four years, the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust has invited non-profit organizations to apply for grants. Since 2001, it has received more than 1,000 applications, and has awarded grants totaling more than seven million dollars to almost 200 organizations. During that time, the Trust has also provided approximately four million dollars in grants to support pharmacy schools around the country. It also provides on-going support to the CVS Corporate Scholarship Program for children of CVS associates and to the CVS Volunteer Challenge Grant Program, which donates funds to community organizations for which CVS associates volunteer. In 2005, the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust donated funds to disaster relief efforts for both the South Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast.

"With the support of the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust, the pediatric rehabilitation program at Hasbro Children's Hospital will be able to develop innovative programs to enhance rehabilitation therapies for young patients. The hospital is introducing new technology that will help increase recovery and physical function for children with neurodevelopment disabilities while making the process of rehabilitation fun for the child. We thank the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust for their generosity in supporting a program that will help thousands of children with disabilities in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts," says Aaron Friedman, pediatrician-in-chief at Hasbro Children's Hospital, the pediatric division of Rhode Island Hospital.

"We are very grateful for the support of the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust. Parents know that growth and development in young children takes place rapidly. For deaf children, being able to take advantage of this early development minimizes future delays. Early language learning opportunities that are overlooked in deaf children can limit their capacity for full development. With new technology and experienced staff, the children are making exceptional progress," said Dr. Janice Gatty, director of Clarke School for the Deaf's early childhood programs.
