ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 8, 2006--Across Michigan, technology from Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) is enriching the lives of citizens and helping state agencies more efficiently provide vital human services such as child protection, adoption and adult placement.

The Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Michigan Department of Information Technology (MDIT) chose Dell to install more than 7,200 Dell OptiPlex(TM) GX 620 and Latitude(TM) D610 systems in 115 offices across 83 counties.

To ensure the departments could continue to provide quality services, DHS needed to update its desktops and notebooks, standardize on a common computer platform across all offices and move from a Windows NT Workstation to a Windows XP Professional environment quickly and with minimal downtime.

"To achieve our goal, we needed a technology partner to help us manage the project from beginning to end," said Terry Salacina, acting director of out-of-state operations for DHS. "We knew Dell could provide the right technology and ensure that each device was installed properly and in a timely manner."

DHS and MDIT chose Dell's services organization to customize and manage the statewide installation and tracking of the new desktop and notebook computers. Dell also provided asset recovery services, which include the removal and environmentally responsible disposal of old technology.

"With standards-based technology across the organization, the DHS IT team has more resources to focus on projects designed to provide residents with top-notch services," said Debbie Dunnam, vice president of Dell's state and local government and K-12 businesses.
