October 2, 2007 - The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), in conjunction with WaterHealth International (WHI), revealed last week its commitment to provide $30 million of loan guarantees to support the financing of up to 2,000 WHI community water systems, serving 11 million people in rural India. This commitment was highlighted at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) 2007 Annual Meeting, an invitation-only gathering of heads of state, CEOs and other global leaders from around the world. With this commitment, Dow and WHI are combining efforts to address the global challenge of more than one billion people without access to safe, clean drinking water.

Andrew Liveris, Dow Chairman and CEO, and Dr. Tralance Addy, President and CEO of WaterHealth International, were recognized on behalf of both organizations by Dr. Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organization. Dr. Chan presented Liveris and Dr. Addy with a commitment certificate during a presentation at the Annual Meeting, which took place September 26-28 in New York City.

"Dow's commitment to facilitate the funding of WaterHealth's growth makes a tremendous impact on our mission of helping to solve the world’s crisis of water-borne disease," said Dr. Addy.

For the past two years, WHI has been providing sustainable, low-cost, community-based water systems to rural villages in India. Dow's commitment will help extend WHI's reach well beyond their current projections of installing 3,000 systems over the next five years. Over the next year and a half, Dow's loan guaranty will be instrumental in bringing affordable, potable water to more than 11 million people living in areas currently without access to safe drinking water.

"Providing economical, effective water systems and sustainable business models to small communities in the developing world is just one way Dow is uniquely positioned to provide breakthroughs that supply cleaner and safer water to those in need," said Liveris. "Through partnerships with organizations like WHI, we can increase the global sense of urgency to solve these world challenges."
