MIDLAND, MICH.- The Dow Chemical Company and The Glad Products Company today announced the donation of 380,000 trash bags to The Ocean Conservancy for use in the Conservancy's 21st annual International Coastal Cleanup day this coming Saturday, September 16th.

The bags, which are targeted for use across the United States, are made of Dow polyethylene resin, and then made into bags by Glad, and shipped to Cleanup coordinators across the nation for distribution to thousands of volunteers who will collect trash from lakes, streams, rivers and beaches, above and below the water.

"Dow has a 20-year history of working on the International Coastal Cleanup, including supplying bags to, and volunteering for the event," said Howard Ungerleider, Commercial Vice President, Plastics North America, The Dow Chemical Company. "We're extremely pleased to join forces with our strategic customer, The Glad Products Company, to provide even stronger support for this important cause. This massive one-day clean-up not only calls attention to the problems our oceans face, but also allows volunteers of all ages to truly make a difference in their own communities."

Glad is a leading producer of trash bags and food storage products, including the popular line of GLAD ForceFlex®* trash bags with stretchable strength®Â†. "Knowing that every bag we produce for the International Coastal Cleanup will represent one less bag of trash on our shorelines is personally rewarding," said Audy Baack, Marketing Manager, The Glad Products Company. "This is a great cause and we're delighted to help by donating our GLAD trash bags.

According to Kate McGoldrick, vice president for constituency and outreach at The Ocean Conservancy, over 300,000 volunteers from all 55 states and U.S. territories and 88 countries worldwide participate in The Cleanup each year, making the International Coastal Cleanup the largest single day effort for the marine environment. "We appreciate the contributions of time and materials from our industry sponsors like Dow and Glad, with their help and the help of our volunteers around the globe we are able to make a real difference in local communities."
