Emerson Named As One of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens

ST. LOUIS - Emerson (NYSE:EMR - News) has been named one of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens for 2004 by Business Ethics magazine.

Now in its fifth year, the rankings identify companies among the 1,000 largest publicly traded firms that excel at serving a variety of stakeholders well. This is Emerson's second year to receive this designation.

Of the 1,000 companies considered, Emerson ranked 85th overall, and was in the top 10 companies in the customer category (product satisfaction). Emerson also had impressive rankings in the environment, and human rights categories (Nos. 32 and 33 respectively). Other stakeholder groups considered are stockholders, employees, community and minorities.

"Emerson and its employees consistently demonstrate responsible, ethical behavior in delivering quality and value to our customers, investors and all we do business with," said David N. Farr, Emerson chief executive officer. "Our practices are rooted in a long history of respect for the individual and in our commitment to make our facilities and communities among the best places to work and live."

Emerson is consistently one of "America's Most Admired" companies in Fortune magazine's annual rankings.

Statistical analysis for the 100 Best Corporate Citizens list was done by the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. Social ratings were provided by KLD Research & Analytics of Boston, a research firm serving socially responsible investors.

The 100 Best Corporate Citizens story will appear in the spring issue of Business Ethics, which for 17 years has been the premier publication for the movement to bring greater social responsibility into business.
