NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Entergy Charitable Foundation was founded to focus on supporting non-profit organizations that serve low-income populations in Entergy Corporation’s service area. Since this area encompasses some of the poorest communities in the United States, the Foundation’s central focus is on funding initiatives that help create and sustain thriving communities.

“We are committed to making a positive and lasting impact on the communities served by the Entergy Corporation,” said Horace Webb, president and CEO of the Entergy Charitable Foundation. “It is not only a key to defining Entergy as a business leader, but it is also simply the right thing to do.”

Grants awarded during the second funding cycle for 2003 totaled over $780,000.

Some of the organizations receiving grants included:

  • The Foundation for the Mid South – Mid South Individual Development Account Initiative which enable low-income families to save, build assets and enter the financial mainstream.

  • Positive Atmosphere Reaches Kids – A youth summer enrichment camp in Pulaski County, Arkansas.

  • Louisiana Resource Center for Educators – To assist with National Teacher’s Exam preparation for education students at Southern University at Baton Rouge.

  • Mid Delta Workforce Alliance – Communities in Schools program to address workforce development in the mid delta region of Mississippi.

  • Excellence in Education – The Historic New Orleans Collection program to teach America history to students in New Orleans schools.

  • Hendrick Hudson Free Library – A cultural events program for youth and adults in New York.

  • Plymouth Public Library Corporation – An adult literacy and tutoring program for recent immigrants to Massachusetts from Brazil.

  • Julie Rogers Gift of Life Program – To provide free mobile mammography and breast exams to economically disadvantaged women in Texas during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
