IRVING, Texas - ExxonMobil (NYSE:XOM) announced today a contribution of $50,000 to the American Red Cross to aid the victims of a devastating typhoon that battered the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam on Sunday, December 8.

The gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund will help the organization provide emergency assistance tailored to the needs of individuals and families who were left homeless by this storm. Some examples of this aid include meals and groceries, water, clothing, emergency medication, clean-up kits, replacement of essential household items, mental health counseling, health services assistance and more.

President George W. Bush has declared the U.S. territory a federal disaster area. According to news reports, the typhoon, named Pongsona, knocked out all electricity and phone systems on the island. Water and sewer systems are not expected to be fully operational for several weeks. Public schools have been turned into shelters to house more than 2,000 people left without homes. The full extent of the structural damage is not yet known, but is expected to be severe.

"Our thoughts are with the people of Guam who once again find themselves in desperate need of assistance due to a natural disaster. This is the second time in less than five months that Guam is being struck by a truly devastating typhoon. We applaud the Red Cross for its efforts and believe it is important to continue to help them to provide assistance to those in need," said Hal Cramer, President of ExxonMobil Fuels Marketing Company. "The fact that ExxonMobil has a long history in Guam and that our own employees are being directly affected makes this disaster very personal."

"The generous and continued support of corporations such as ExxonMobil helps the Red Cross respond immediately to the needs of disaster victims wherever they are, whenever they need it most," said Skip Seitz, senior vice president, Growth and Integrated Development, American Red Cross. "Their financial contribution also enables us to remain in the affected disaster area for as long as it takes to help people recover and rebuild."
