ExxonMobil Foundation announced today that is has contributed more than $16 million in unrestricted grants to 882 colleges and universities in 2000. For the fifth consecutive year, ExxonMobil Foundation's contribution is the nation's largest matching gift program in support of higher education.
"ExxonMobil employees take pride in contributing to their colleges and universities across the country," said Edward F. Ahnert, ExxonMobil Foundation president. "The Foundation recognizes the impact these contributions have on institutions and affirms its strong commitment to academic excellence by providing a 3-to-1 match."
Under the program, a donor can give up to $5,000 a year to colleges and universities with which he or she is affiliated and the Foundation matches those gifts on a 3-to-1 basis up to $15,000. The affiliation requirement is waived for gifts to the United Negro College Fund, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the American Indian College Fund.

Through its unique, hands-on approach, the ExxonMobil Foundation has played a significant role in the education reform movement in the United States.
In addition to education, ExxonMobil Foundation supports programs in the environment, public information and policy research, united appeals, health, civic and community service, minority and women services, and the arts.
