More than 550 employees from General Electric (GE) businesses in Kansas City will participate in GE's Day of Caring on Thursday, October 18. A company-wide initiative, GE's Day of Caring involves GE businesses around the world joining together to serve their respective communities.

Volunteers from 16 GE businesses in Kansas City will roll up their sleeves to clean, paint, and repair the interior and exterior of the City Union Mission campus (1108 E. 10th St., Kansas City, Mo.) and the Ozanam Home for Boys (421 E. 137th St., Kansas City, Mo.). City Union Mission provides a wide variety of services to underprivileged and homeless individuals and families. Ozanam provides residential and day services to troubled children.

"This collaboration between GE and the Kansas City community is truly inspiring," said Al Stanley, Chief Operating Officer and United Way Chairperson for Overland Park-based GE Employers Reinsurance Corporation. "It is invigorating to see so many people give their time and talents to benefit others in need."

During September, a weeklong fundraising effort for the United Way was held by GE Employers Reinsurance Corporation (GE ERC), who is leading this effort in Kansas City. Nationwide, GE ERC employees exceeded their fundraising goal of $500,000 by collecting over $650,000 through pledges, raffles, auctions, and a variety of scheduled employee events. These donations are matched by a $325,000 donation by GE.
