The National Multiple Sclerosis Society's 11th annual Dinner of Champions Gala presented by University Hospitals will honor Henry L. Meyer III, Chairman, President & CEO of KeyCorp. Meyer will receive the Society's highest honor, the Norman Cohn Hope Award, for his dedicated commitment to community service.

Meyer joined the former Society National Bank (now KeyCorp) in 1972 and was given positions of increasing responsibility. He was elected President in May 1997, Chief Executive Officer in February 2001 and Chairman of the Board in May 2001. He is also active in Cleveland's civic and cultural life, serving on numerous boards including the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, United Way Services of Greater Cleveland and University Hospitals Health System.

WVIZ PBS and 90.3 WCPN Ideastream will also be recognized for their continuous support of the National MS Society. They will be receiving the Susan and John Turben Community Lifetime Award.

More than 600 prominent members of the community are expected to attend the event as Meyer receives recognition for his professional excellence and support of the Society's mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

Alexander Cutler, Chairman, President & CEO of Eaton Corporation, and Carol Cartwright, President Emeritus of Kent State University, are co-chairing this year's event.

The gala takes place October 26 at the Executive Caterers at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights. The evening begins with a silent auction and cocktail reception starting at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner, a live auction and the program at 7:15 p.m.

All proceeds from the Dinner of Champions Gala will be used to provide programs and services for more than 15,000 Ohioans who have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The funds will also be used for MS-related research efforts to help find the cause and a cure for multiple sclerosis.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or more severe, and may include paralysis or loss of vision.

Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, but the unpredictable physical and emotional effects can be life long. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of multiple sclerosis in any one person cannot be predicted, but research advances continue to offer hope to those affected by the disease. Nationwide, there are approximately 400,000 people who live with the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.
