MANCHESTER, Maine -- On Wednesday, June 21, KeyBank President Steve Woods attended a HealthInfoNet board meeting in Manchester to announce the company's $50,000 contribution to the innovative HealthInfoNet project. This donation is part of KeyBank's overall commitment to supporting health care organizations and initiatives in Maine.

"Great strides are made in the improvement of the lives of Mainers due to public and private partnerships such as this one," Woods explained. "KeyBank is proud to be a part of what we expect to be one of the nation's first statewide networks for the electronic information-sharing of health records." HealthInfoNet's board of directors includes physicians, healthcare executives, employers, consumers, government officials and public health leaders, all of whom were on hand at the June 21 meeting at the Maine Medical Association office in Manchester.

HealthInfoNet Board of Directors Chair, Chuck Hewett, of The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor remarked, "The KeyBank contribution is especially important for two reasons: it represents the first financial support we've received from Maine's business community; also, KeyBank's support will trigger matching dollars through the Maine Health Access Foundation, which recently announced a $1 million challenge grant to HealthInfoNet."

HealthInfoNet is an independent nonprofit organization that has been working on the shift to a statewide paperless health records system in Maine for two years. A crucial element of Governor Baldacci's State Health Plan, HealthInfoNet will include rigorous protections to ensure the highest level of patient privacy and overall security. Health care providers will be able to instantly access critical information with the patient's consent. In addition to making the jobs of health care providers easier, HealthInfoNet will also greatly benefit consumers. The new system will provide for fewer medical errors, lower costs and improved care.

KeyBank N.A., a subsidiary of KeyCorp (NYSE: KEY), is one of Maine's largest financial services companies with assets of approximately $3.3 billion. Key has one of the largest statewide networks of branches (65) and ATMs (100) and is a leader in community involvement, contributing nearly $1 million to local nonprofit agencies and organizations. A strong proponent for local economic growth, Key companies provide investment management, retail and commercial banking, retirement, consumer finance, and investment banking products and services to individuals and companies throughout the United States and, for certain businesses, internationally.
