Cleveland, OH - Black Professionals Association Charitable Foundation today named KeyCorp executive Margot J. Copeland its 2006 Black Professional of the Year in recognition of her professional achievements, civic contributions, and personal standards. The foundation will honor Copeland on October 7, 2006 at its 26th Anniversary Scholarship and Awards Gala at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven.

"As our 25th Black Professional of the Year," says foundation Vice President Nancella Wilson Harris, "Ms. Copeland joins a prestigious group of Greater Cleveland area professionals recognized for making a significant and positive impact within our community."

Copeland is Director, Corporate Diversity & Philanthropy and an Executive Council member at KeyCorp. In her role, she also serves as chair of the Key Foundation, guiding the company's strategic philanthropic investment in financial education and workforce development programs that encourage people and communities to achieve economic self-sufficiency.

Copeland is a career human resources professional championing environments where people can realize their full potential. She has held positions of increasing responsibility including president and chief executive officer of the Greater Cleveland Roundtable and executive director of Leadership Cleveland prior to joining Key.

Recognizing that business and community prosperity go hand in hand, Copeland leads Key's commitment to transforming and sustaining communities. She currently serves as trustee of the Thomas White Foundation; Kenneth Scott Foundation; The Great Lakes Museum of Science, Environment and Technology; University Hospitals Health System; Playhouse Square Foundation; National Council of Diversity Executives; and Hawken School. Additionally, she is Mentor/Protégé Program Advisor for Morehouse College (Atlanta, Georgia); a member of the Presidents and the Business School Advisory board at Hampton University; the Advisory Board of the National Women's Hall of Fame (Seneca, New York). She is also an Honorary Board Member of the Underground Railroad Museum and Freedom Center (Cincinnati, Ohio).
