El Segundo, Calif., - Mattel, Inc. [NYSE: MAT] and the Mattel Children's Foundation today announced the creation of a unique partnership with the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) to provide more than 65,000 toys to 190 NACHRI member hospitals in the U.S. and Canada. The first of its kind, Mattel's partnership with NACHRI will enable children's hospitals in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, which are members of NACHRI, to receive Mattel and Fisher-Price® toys.

Toy packages will include approximately 150 Fisher-Price® and 200 Mattel toys (including such brands as Barbie® and Hot Wheels®) in a donation valued at nearly half a million dollars. Donations will be administered by Gifts in Kind International, the world's leading charity in product philanthropy.

"The Mattel Children's Foundation is committed to making a meaningful difference, one child at a time. We're proud to partner with NACHRI to help children be children by bringing joy to their hospital experience through age-appropriate toys and by helping to reduce preventable injuries," said Kevin Farr, chairman of the Mattel Children's Foundation and Mattel Chief Financial Officer.

The Mattel Children's Foundation also has pledged $100,000 to support NACHRI's Children's Hospitals Injury Prevention Cooperative, an initiative that allows children's hospitals to share injury prevention resources and tools in order to reduce the number of preventable injuries nationwide. Unintentional injury is the leading cause of death among children ages 1 to 14 years old. Unintentional injury is also the leading cause of nonfatal injuries for children of that same age group, making it among the most serious and persistent health threats to American children.

"We're grateful to the Mattel Children's Foundation for the grant and the generous gift of toys," said Lawrence A. McAndrews, president and CEO of NACHRI. "This partnership underscores the commitment of both organizations to the health and well-being of children."
