EPA and DOE Name Maytag Appliances ENERGY STAR(R) 2002 Partner of the Year

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy(DOE)have named Maytag Appliances as an ENERGY STAR(R) Partner of the Year for its commitment to making and selling energy-efficient products that save consumers money on energy and water bills. Maytag will be recognized at a special 10th Anniversary awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 26, 2002.
Maytag (NYSE: MYG) is being honored for its leadership in manufacturing and promoting products that carry the ENERGY STAR label. Its high efficiency products include the Maytag Neptune(R), the world's first washer and dryer that saves time and money, provides customized clothing care and features touchscreen controls, and the Maytag Wide-By-Side(TM) refrigerator, which has the newest interior configuration of the past 40 years. In 2000, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR and its partners, saved enough energy to power 10 million homes and reduce air pollution equivalent to that from 10 million cars.
In addition to its superior high efficiency products, Maytag's ongoing education efforts and support of energy conservation are key initiatives that ENERGY STAR applauds. Activities include sponsoring the Making Music Matter concert tour, developing and distributing education materials, a mobile marketing truck tour that demonstrates Maytag appliances and their energy savings and grass roots efforts designed to increase awareness.

Maytag has led the high-efficiency category since 1997, when it introduced the Neptune(R) washer which saves consumers 10,764 gallons of water per year, uses 40 percent less water, 65 percent less energy and saves up to $100 per year*. Building on its original high quality washer, the new Neptune has the same consumer benefits as the original -- much needed Conservation, outstanding Cleaning, increased clothing Care and unmatched usable Capacity, with a new feature -- Customization, which allows consumers to create, name and store favorite wash cycles to easily fit any family's lifestyle.
The matching Maytag Neptune dryer offers smart enhancements, too, including the Wrinkle Prevent option, "Freshen Up" cycle, "Favorites" option and matched cycle times. Consumers no longer have to repackage foods such as pizzas or watermelons to fit into the typical side-by-side refrigerator/freezer compartments. Available in a side-by-side, Maytag's Wide-By-Side is also available with exclusive ClimateZone(TM) Technology drawers that automatically set optimal storage temperatures for specific food groups to keep them fresher, longer.
