Business Ethics magazine ranks Herman Miller, Inc., No. 5—between Procter & Gamble and Xerox—on its list of "100 Best Corporate Citizens" in the U.S., based on the results of a study released in mid-March. IBM, Hewlett Packard and Intel round out the top five.

The listing, showcased in the magazine's March/April 2000 issue, highlights public companies which best serve four stakeholder groups: stockholders, employees, customers, and the community.

Ranked on a five-point scale ranging from "major concern (1)" to "major strength" (5), Herman Miller scored an overall rating of 4.02. The top company, IBM, scored a 4.15.

The rankings were prepared by researchers at Boston College Carroll School of Management and use social rankings compiled by Kinder, Lyndenberg, Domini & Co., (KLD) a Boston social research firm. KLD's database provides the research for the Domini 400 Social Index (DSI), a socially screened counterpart to the Standard & Poor's 500.

Published since 1987, Business Ethics magazine focuses on promoting corporate social responsibility and celebrating progressive management practices. More information is available at the publication's website, www.business-ethics.com.
