Beaverton, OR - Nike, Inc. today announced that the company's support of Hurricane Katrina relief efforts has topped $4 million in cash and product donations to on-the-ground efforts in Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as the company's backyard communities in which evacuees are beginning to or may relocate.

"Beyond our immediate $500,000 cash donation to the American Red Cross, we've provided more than $3.5 million in products and are continuing to identify the most effective ways of offering immediate and long-term support for those affected by Hurricane Katrina," said Molly White, Nike's Director of U.S. Community Involvement. "Our relief efforts are aimed at addressing the needs of our affected employees and their families, as well as supporting broader community needs focused on relief and rebuilding."

Nike has four factory outlet stores in the region, located in Gulfport, Miss.; Foley, Ala.; Destin, Fla.; and Commerce, Ga. The Gulfport store is structurally intact and has power but remains closed because of water and roof damage. All other stores are open and operational. All Nike employees have been accounted for, and the company is working to support them in their recovery and rebuilding efforts. Nike's support includes extending the company's employee assistance program to affected employees' extended family members. The program includes immediate and long-term crisis assistance, counseling, legal resources and financial advice.

Cash and Product Donations

On August 31, Nike made an immediate cash donation of $500,000 to the American Red Cross. The company also is encouraging visitors at its Nike.com and Nikebiz.com Web sites to donate to the American Red Cross. All 106 Nike U.S. retail locations, with the exception of Gulfport, are accepting customer donations to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. As of September 12, Nike customers have given more than $59,000.

Through company distribution centers in Tennessee and Oregon, Nike employees have shipped more than $3.5 million in product to Gifts-in-Kind and other organizations for evacuees of the hurricane. The product donations include the $500,000 in sports equipment such as soccer balls, footballs, baseballs and gloves, as well as shorts and shirts to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Relief Fund. The company's product donations will be received by various relief centers in Houston that are housing approximately 24,000 evacuees.

Responding to the Needs of Evacuees in Nike Backyard Communities
As evacuees enter the Memphis area, where Nike's largest U.S. footwear and apparel distribution centers are located, the company is working with local community organizations to understand how Nike can support efforts there through cash, product donations and volunteer opportunities.
Nike is supporting employees who donate their time to those organizations active in relief efforts by contributing $10 per hour for each volunteer hour given, with a minimum of 25 hours per community-based organization. Volunteer opportunities are being communicated to employees as they are available.

Partners and Athletes

Many Nike partners and athletes are also contributing to relief efforts. The Lance Armstrong Foundation (www.livestrong.org) announced last week it will distribute approximately $500,000 to assist cancer survivors, including those in active treatment, who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. Funds will be disbursed to qualified non-profit organizations and cancer centers that are currently providing assistance to cancer survivors.

On Sunday, Nike donated apparel, footwear and sports balls for distribution at local evacuee centers in Houston as part of a league-sanctioned exhibition game at the Toyota Center. A number of NBA players donated a combined $1 million, including Nike and Converse athletes LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers; Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers; Jermaine O'Neal, Indiana Pacers; Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat; Amare Stoudemire, Phoenix Suns; Paul Pierce, Boston Celtics; Alonzo Mourning, Miami Heat; Sam Cassell, Los Angeles Clippers; and Carlos Boozer, Utah Jazz.

Nike-affiliated universities Arizona State and Louisiana State agreed to relocate their recent football game to Tempe, Ariz., in order to prevent any additional strain upon Louisiana's resources. Nike supported the efforts of Arizona State University, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl staff and various other local sponsors to make this sold-out game a fun evening and contributed to the fundraising efforts. Many of the nearly 500 Louisiana evacuees temporarily in Arizona attended the game. Upon request, Nike shipped approximately 750 pairs of footwear and various apparel items valued at $50,000 for the displaced evacuees. Donations for the evacuees were collected at the game and $1 million was donated to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Relief Fund and the Hurricane Katrina Student Relief Fund.

Nike will continue to provide updates related to Katrina relief and recovery efforts. In addition, the company's FY05 global community investment results are now available on http://www.nikeresponsibility.com.
