Praxair and Zentox to Save Fieldale Farms 100 Million Gallons of Water Annually

A system to clean and reuse almost 400,000 gallons of water per day will be installed at Fieldale Farms' Murrayville, Ga., poultry processing plant by Praxair, Inc. (NYSE: PX) and Zentox Corporation.

The agreement for the installation and operation of the CascadeTM water reuse system will allow Fieldale Farms to capture, cleanse and return 400 gallons per minute of water for reuse in operations throughout the plant.

The U.S. poultry processing industry currently uses over 60 billion gallons of water annually. The ability to reuse water is important to the many processors whose need for water often exceeds the volume available to them from the local supply.

Fieldale Farms, a major Georgia-based poultry processor with plants in Murrayville, Gainesville and Cornelia, produces over thirteen million pounds of chicken weekly. The Murrayville plant was facing local water restrictions that required them to cut water usage by hundreds of thousands of gallons each day.

By allowing them to reuse such a significant volume of water, the Cascade water reuse system not only will help them increase production, but also significantly reduce their water consumption without compromising cleanliness or food safety.

"We explored other options to solve our water issues, but this is the first system we looked at that did what they promised it would," said Steven Collier, vice president and director of operations for Fieldale Farms. "We had access to their first installation and production data, and that information proved to us this was the system we wanted."

The agreement with Fieldale marks another phase in the marketing alliance between Praxair and Zentox, which was created to bring unique solutions to the food and beverage industry's water management challenges. Their first joint marketing effort, the Cascade water reuse system achieves a water quality standard required by the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
