Sprint announced that Yijing Brentano, senior financial analyst within the Sprint National Consumer Organization, is a recipient of the coveted 2000 Women of Color Technology Award.

The 2000 Women of Color in Technology Awards celebrate the superior achievements of minority women, recognizing accomplishments in the fields of math, science, technology and engineering. The award provides encouragement and promotes educational opportunities for aspiring professional women.

Among her other achievements, Brentano has been on the National Deans' List, the Dean's Honor List from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and received the Golden Key National Honor Society Award for graduating at the top of the Business School class.

Yijing was admitted to the University of Chicago's Weekend MBA program, one of the top-ranked part-time programs in the nation in autumn, 1998. Despite the challenges of balancing work, family including an 18-month-old, and school, Yijing has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her graduate education. Brentano has been working at Sprint since July 1997 and currently is a Certified Cash Manager, a member of the Kansas City Treasury Management Association (KCTMA) plus is actively involved with the Greater Kansas City Junior Chamber of Commerce. Brentano's executive education is being underwritten by Sprint.

Selection criteria for the coveted Women of Color Technology Award included: scope of responsibility; effect of achievements on the organization; breadth of community outreach activities; and the effect on other minorities seeking science and technology careers. Candidates included any full-time or part-time female Sprint associates who ethnically self-identified as a woman of color, and whose accomplishments as an engineer, scientist, technologist, officer or manager made them a candidate for recognition.

The award, which helps identify exceptional women who are making outstanding contributions in their field, will be presented at the Women of Color Conference, September 28-30, 2000 at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, Georgia.
