CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2006--Do you work in a nonprofit office that looks like a hornet's nest? Is your office printer slower than rush-hour traffic on Interstate 85? Are you and your staff so busy helping the community that there is no time to help yourselves? If so, Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) invites you to enter its "Helping Hands" Office Makeover Contest through which your nonprofit could win a design and document technology makeover worth up to $15,000.

The winning office - which must be a Charlotte-area 501(c)(3) organization - must show how it has neglected its own office needs in order to do great work in its community. Xerox will assess the winner's current document technology and work processes and then provide the right blend of color printers, software and other equipment to boost productivity. Brice Cooper of Home & Garden Television's popular show Design on a Dime will give the space a fresh new look, and The HON Company will provide professional office furniture.

"Nonprofits are often the unsung heroes of communities across the country," said Cooper. "It will be great to lend a hand and create an inviting workplace for those who focus their daily lives on helping others."

Charlotte is the first in a series of cities nationwide where Xerox will hold its "Helping Hands" makeover contest. According to a national survey conducted by consulting firm PhilanthropyNow and its partners*, small, regional and local nonprofits in the U.S. have experienced a decrease in charitable giving due to the number of global natural disasters over the past 18 months.

Through this contest, Xerox is giving back to those nonprofits that continue to do great work in their communities by helping them update their technology and office environment. These changes will help the nonprofit organization become more productive and efficient and will provide more energizing surroundings for staff and clients.

"Many offices struggle with outdated equipment and surroundings because of limited budgets," said Jeff Bercaw, who manages Xerox sales agencies in the Charlotte area. "Nonprofits and small businesses alike can look to the contest winner as an example of how small changes in technology and design can not only reduce overall operating costs but can result in big changes in productivity and motivation."

Based on the nonprofit's needs, Xerox will add color to the organization's documents through its Phaser(R) printers or WorkCentre(R) multifunction systems - which print, copy, scan and fax. Like all businesses, nonprofits can benefit by adding the value of color to their proposals, fundraising materials, program fliers and other documents to reach new clients, attract new donors and increase response rates. Xerox will also provide document management software to help the office better store, organize and share hardcopy and digital documents.

Nonprofit organizations that enter the contest will be judged on how outdated their work processes currently are and how much they need a technology and design refresh. Contest judges are Brice Cooper; Donna Wittmann, vice president, Small and Medium Businesses for Xerox North America; and Dave Burdakin, president, The HON Company.

The deadline to enter is June 30. Eligible nonprofit organizations must be an Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3) public charity or private foundation within the Charlotte area that has been in operation for at least one year and has 5-15 full-time office employees. The nonprofit must have a main office work space of no larger than 1,000 square feet. Home offices are not eligible. For complete rules and to enter, visit www.xerox.com/helpinghands.
