Diversity, Work-Life Successes at Xerox Earn Two Accolades

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2006--Two organizations today recognized Xerox Corporation's (NYSE: XRX) culture of equity in the workplace and commitment to helping employees balance their personal and professional lives.

Black Enterprise magazine named Xerox among its "40 Best Companies for Diversity," and the Families and Work Institute honored the company's work-life approach with a 2006 Work Life Legacy Award.

To develop its second annual list, Black Enterprise editors evaluated more than 1,000 companies according to several criteria, including supplier diversity, community outreach, and minority representation on the board, in senior management and in the total work force. Xerox was ranked not only in the "40 Best" overall but also in the "10 best in senior management diversity" and the "10 best in board diversity."

"The BE 40 Best Companies for Diversity truly understand how critically valuable a diverse workforce and inclusive business practices are to the success of their operations," said Butch Graves, Black Enterprise president and CEO. "These companies are setting the standard for corporate America."

It is the second year that Xerox earned recognition from Black Enterprise. The 2006 results appear in the July issue of the magazine.

In addition to its pioneering efforts to nurture an inclusive workplace environment, Xerox has long fostered a respect for work-life balance. That leadership is honored by the Families and Work Institute's Work Life Legacy Award, also presented today and designed to spotlight people and companies that "forge new ways of making work 'work' for employees and employers."

Xerox was cited for developing an approach to work-life in the 1980s that made work-life a productivity issue rather than a "working mom" issue. The company created policies that valued work-life balance and integrated that value into the culture. Today, Xerox offers various flex time, job sharing and telecommuting work arrangements as well as benefits such as tuition reimbursement, child-care subsidies, child-care counseling and referral, first-time homebuyer's assistance, adoption assistance, and more.

A nonprofit center for research, Families and Work Institute selected the 2006 Legacy Award winners from nominations made by the previous year's winners.

Xerox frequently has been acknowledged as a top employer for its workplace opportunities and practices as well as its commitment to diversity and social responsibility. Other organizations citing the company this year include DiversityInc magazine, Hispanic Magazine, the Human Rights Campaign and the Urban League.
