Avant! Corporation today announced the grant of software licenses of Avant!'s leading-edge integrated circuit design tools to colleges and universities worldwide. Prestigious institutions that received these multi-million dollar donations include: Boston University, Duke University, Purdue University, Stanford University, U.C. Berkeley, Kyunghee University, University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Osaka University, Nagoya University, Sangdong University of Technology (China), Fudan University (China), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, National Taiwan University (Taiwan), National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan), National Tsing Hua University, National Chung Hsing University, and National Sun Yat-Sen University, among others. Grants of Avant!'s leading-edge integrated circuit design tools continue to support faculty research projects and educate university students worldwide.

"Avant! continues and strengthens its commitment to support and improve worldwide education and advanced university research with industry leading design tools," said Gerald C. Hsu, chairman, president and CEO of Avant! Corporation. "We are honored to support the education of the engineers who will shape the future of our industry."

"All of our universities and colleges have benefited from using Avant! tools for the past three years," said Professor Kunihiro Asata, director of VDEC at the University of Tokyo. "We find these tools exceptionally valuable in preparing our students for future career challenges."

Another recipient, Dr. Wong-Kyung Cho, chief of the ASIC Design Education Center of Kyunghee University said, "We will use Avant!'s donated software for teaching, as well as for research. Our students will greatly benefit from Avant!'s generous grant. By using this design automation software, students are equipped to better understand the design process and to immediately become productive in industry. The industry-leading technology of these tools represents one of the most important components in the education of engineering students for future work in industry."

Donations to the University of California, Berkeley brought this response. "We wanted to use Avant! tools for the IRAM project because our friends in the industry recommended them to us as the 'best in class'. We are delighted to be the recipient of this generous donation from Avant!," stated Professor David Patterson, the E.H. and M.E. Pardee Chair of Computer Science at U.C. Berkeley. "The use of Avant! technology will certainly contribute to the success of this very challenging design project."

SinglePass with Jupiter is Avant!'s proprietary HDL to silicon flow that delivers the fastest time-to-market for high-performance, high-density silicon at very deep submicron (VDSM) process geometries. The Milkyway-based, SinglePass flow and tools ensure rapid convergence of key design parameters, such as timing, area, power and signal integrity through early design planning, accurate VDSM silicon modeling, industry-leading place and route, and full chip analysis and optimization.

Avant!'s donations include worldclass TCAD software for process and device simulation and mask synthesis. These products include Taurus-Device advanced device simulation, Taurus-Process - multidimensional process simulation, Taurus WorkBench, Taurus-Mask/OPC - optical process correction for the latest processes and Taurus-Mask/PSM - phase shift mask optimization. Due to their accurate, early modeling, prediction, and optimization of advanced processes, Avant!'s TCAD product line is the market leader for next-generation process development.

Avant!'s silicon-proven Libra Passport and Visa libraries (standard cells, I/Os, and memory compilers) are included for many of the donations. The Libra-Passport libraries support a multi-foundry manufacturing environment while the Libra-Visa libraries are optimized, foundry-specific libraries. All Libra libraries are tightly integrated with Avant! tools and are the only qualified SinglePass design library solution.

About Avant!
Avant! (pronounced Ah VAHN tee) Corporation develops, markets, and supports integrated circuit (IC) design automation software solutions (from system definition to mask synthesis) for the rapid design of multimillion gate products including system on chip (SoC). These ICs power the consumer electronics, internet infrastructure, wireless, telecommunications, and automotive products that enhance work and leisure time.

The Company is the leading provider of physical foundation IP libraries for IC design and provides a full suite of software for integrated circuit design, process simulation, device modeling, and mask synthesis. Its Milkyway-based, SinglePass HDL-to-Silicon design software solution is built on a unified database supporting hierarchical design methodologies and incremental design changes to achieve rapid timing closure for its customers, improve their productivity and reduce their time-to-market. Avant!'s powerful suite of systems design tools include IC-package co-design and optimization, system-level electronic design and analysis, and mixed-signal and electro-mechanical system simulation.
