TORONTO - This Saturday, Esso will donate one cent for every litre of gasoline sold to the United Way of Greater Toronto. Almost 200 Esso sites in the Greater Toronto Area will participate in the event. Extra activities are planned for all participating sites including free product samples and, at over 12 sites, Imperial Oil employees will volunteer their time to provide Esso customers with additional services.

"By simply visiting your local Esso station this weekend and filling up your tank, you're helping people out in this community," says Brian Fischer, Senior Vice-President at Imperial Oil. "At Esso, we recognize the importance of the United Way in our community and we're delighted to be able to extend our participation this year to our customers."

"We are excited to be partnering with Esso in this unique initiative," said United Way President Frances Lankin. "This event will help raise funds to help strengthen neighbourhoods in Toronto through United Way, and support people right here in our city."

United Way of Greater Toronto funds a network of 200 social and health service agencies that help strengthen neighbourhoods across the city. The money raised this year will help children and youth, senior citizens in need, families and abused women, disabled and homeless people as well as newcomers to Canada through United Way's Community Fund.

Imperial Oil is Canada's largest integrated oil and gas company with over 6,000 employees in locations across Canada. The company has been involved with United Way for over 25 years and last year's national campaign resulted in a donation of over $2.5 million to the 2003 United Way/Centraide Campaign across Canada. Of that, over $765,000 was raised for the United Way of Greater Toronto.
