IMPCO Technologies,Inc. (Nasdaq: IMCO) --

- IMPCO now meets tough new emission laws in Mexico City and becomes leading supplier to vehicle conversion centers around the country

- New patented product aimed at Mexico City's conversion market while satisfying CARB/EPA requirements

Culminating a large-scale engineering and development effort to create a new series of gaseous fuel metering and delivery products for automotive applications in Mexico City and throughout South America, IMPCO announced today that it has received a patent for its next-generation tamper-evident and tamper-resistant fuel metering product used in the transportation and industrial markets.

IMPCO is the world's leading source of advanced alternative fuel systems technology and components for internal combustion engines used in transportation, lift truck and power generation equipment, multi-billion dollar global markets.

Mr. Dennis Hartman, VP and General Manager of the Gaseous Fuel Products Division, said, "IMPCO is an industry leader in new product development. A significant amount of resources has been allocated to create air-quality regulatory compliant fuel system products for the growing Mexico City market. This new fuel delivery product and its accompanying patent reflect IMPCO's dedication to reducing air pollution in all of South America.

"Mexico City, once known for having the World's most polluted air, has taken a dramatic step forward in reducing the city's pollution by enacting mandatory air pollution legislation which targets taxis, delivery vehicles and small buses, and requires conversion to gaseous fuels such as propane and natural gas. In the combined states of Mexico, over 115,000 conversions from liquid fuels to gaseous fuels took place in 2001. IMPCO is investing in product and technology at a rate which allows Mexican government public policy objectives to be achieved with confidence."

Now more than ever, industrial and developing countries need to find suitable sources of cost effective, environmentally friendly sources of transportation. Gaseous fuels such as natural gas, propane are indigenous to most of the world's users; and offer a clean, reliable economic supply of energy.

IMPCO is the first company to receive a patent for a tamper evident fuel metering product and holds 6 other patents for clean-burning fuel technology. In a related story released September 20, 2001, IMPCO announced that the State of Jalisco in Mexico has approved the use of a specialized IMPCO alternative fuel system for use on new state vehicles. In Phase One, 600 vehicles of a total 3,500 vehicles will be equipped with the LPG fuel system. Total value of the planned 3,500 conversions is in excess of $4.4 million. The Phase One conversion is scheduled to take place this calendar year which represents an important step in Mexico's strategy to improve air quality and reduce dependency on foreign sources of energy. The government of Jalisco state has more than 3,500 vehicles operating on alternative fuels.

IMPCO's products enable internal combustion engines to operate using environmentally friendly gaseous fuels such as propane, natural gas and biogas. IMPCO products optimize efficiency and performance while reducing emission to the lowest-levels. IMPCO is a major supplier to original equipment manufacturers in the power generation, industrial and transportation markets. IMPCO supports its global aftermarket through a network of more than 400 Distributors and Service Parts Organizations.

World headquarters are located in Cerritos, California. IMPCO has key offices and facilities worldwide including: North America, Central America, South America, India and the Pacific Rim. It operates in the Netherlands, France, Germany and the United Kingdom as IMPCO-BERU Technologies, B.V. IMPCO can be found at http://www.impco.ws .

Certain matters discussed in this press release contain forward-looking information that involves risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from current trends. These include, among other things, the growth of the alternative fuels and fuel cells market, OEM automotive product sales, competition, the Company's ability to design and market viable advanced fuel metering, fuel storage or electronic control products, the Company's ability to meet OEM specifications and other such risks as cited in the Company's 2001 annual report on Form 10-K and other documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
