Published 04-19-05

Submitted by Amazon.com, Inc

What: Amazon.com, in partnership with the Center for Social Innovation at Stanford Graduate School of Business, is accepting applications for the Amazon.com Nonprofit Innovation Award for just one more week. The award recognizes and rewards nonprofit organizations across the U.S., whose innovative approaches effectively improve their communities or the world at large.

How it Works:

  • Innovative nonprofits should visit www.amazon.com/nonprofitinnovation to download and submit their application from now through April 28, 2005.

  • In June of 2005, ten award finalists will be chosen. The ten finalists will have the ability to raise funds and awareness for their programs directly on Amazon.com's Web site. Each of the ten finalists will be featured on their own Amazon.com pages beginning July 19, where customers can contribute directly to their favorite organization(s). In addition, the finalists will be profiled in the Stanford Social Innovation Review.

  • The nonprofit that receives the most in contributions by September 30 will be named the winner of the Amazon.com Nonprofit Innovation Award. A matching grant of up to $1 million from Amazon.com will be awarded to the winner in October 2005.

Who: Amazon.com is seeking entrants providing a variety of innovative solutions to social problems across the spectrum, from local community organizations to globally-focused initiatives. Solutions can range from neighborhood-based groups focused on helping kids stay in school, to organizations that bring immunizations to developing countries. Any nonprofit that has a unique way of tackling and solving problems is encouraged to apply.

Application Deadline: April 28, 2005. More information and applications are available at www.amazon.com/nonprofitinnovation.
