PITTSBURGH - Three weeks after Bayer Corporation announced it established a tsunami relief effort and would match employee donations across the United States dollar for dollar from its Foundation, $260,000 was contributed to Save the Children(R).

"Bayer employees always step up in times of need," said Attila Molnar, Bayer Corporation's president and CEO. But I'm particularly gratified by this outpouring of support, and I'm pleased to be able to provide our contribution to Save the Children(R), whose work is so critical."

Bayer's donation will help Save the Children(R) carry out long-term rebuilding and recovery projects, including job skills training, loan assistance, repairing and rebuilding of schools, homes and health centers, and providing emotional support for trauma victims.

"We are grateful for the generous support from Bayer Corporation employees for our relief and recovery efforts in the areas affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami. Our emphasis is to bring immediate and lasting, positive change to children affected by this disaster," said Charles MacCormick, president and CEO, Save the Children(R).

Bayer Corporation, headquartered in Pittsburgh, is part of the worldwide Bayer Group, an international health care, nutrition and innovative materials group based in Leverkusen, Germany. Bayer employed 23,300 in North America with net North American sales of 8.8 billion euros in 2003. Since Bayer has spun off most of its chemicals and about one-third of its polymer business in January 2005, the company now focuses on three operative business areas - HealthCare, CropScience and MaterialScience - aiming to improve people's lives through a broad range of products that help diagnose and treat diseases, protect crops and advance automobile safety and durability.
