PROVIDENCE, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 28, 2006--On Friday April
28 and Saturday, April 29, 2006, a team of forty Washington Trust employees will renovate a home in Providence, RI as part of the 13th Annual Rebuild Day coordinated by Rebuilding Together Providence. Bank volunteers are joining the nearly 2,000 volunteers of all ages and backgrounds who will do home repairs and community projects this weekend. This year's Rebuild Day includes 20 homes and 10 non-profit sites in 16 neighborhoods located throughout the City of Providence. Work at the project sites will be underway from approximately 9 a.m.
to 4 p.m.

Washington Trust volunteers will work on a home on Oregon Street in the Smith Hill section of Providence. The family they will assist includes an elderly woman who is an amputee and her 46-year-old daughter who is mentally disabled. The street will be blocked off so that Washington Trust volunteers can work on both the inside and outside of the home. Volunteers will make accessibility and fire safety improvements to the home by replacing a front door and installing a wheelchair ramp. They will also paint both inside and outside the home, as well as make electrical and plumbing repairs. The family will enjoy the hospitality of Bannister House as guests while their house is being repaired. Washington Trust employees recently held a bake sale to raise funds to purchase new curtains in the home.

"Washington Trust is committed to supporting and finding solutions for good, safe, affordable housing in Rhode Island, so we're pleased to be a part of Rebuild Day," stated John C. Warren, Washington Trust chairman and chief executive officer. Adding, "We're especially proud of our employees who are lending a hand to help make a home much safer and brighter for a family in Providence."

"While the results of Rebuild Day are certainly tangible in the sense that buildings are restored, beautified and made safe for those who live in them, or use their services, there is a very human aspect to the work that we do," said Jane Upper, executive director, Rebuilding Together Providence. "What is not as apparent is that in each home lives a family with their own story. With the help of Rebuilding Together volunteers, we are able to ensure these families have safe and happy endings. Volunteer coordinators and site captains at each location can answer questions and provide additional information about their projects.
