Triple-bottom-line report examines stakeholder engagement

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan -- Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) today began distribution of its newly published Sustainability Report - Beyond the Boardroom - which documents the company's economic, social and environmental performance in 2004.

This report builds on PotashCorp's 2003 effort, which was judged the best sustainability report in Canada by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

This third report, published annually, firmly establishes PotashCorp's commitment to developing and implementing sustainable business practices which it views as critical to its long-term success.

"Sustainability is good business. Therefore, our commitment to sustainability guides every interaction we have with our stakeholders," said President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Doyle. "This year's reporting effort demonstrates dramatic progress toward integrating this discipline throughout our organization and aligning our value system with sustainable performance measures."

Among the report's highlights:

  • Steps that were taken to achieve a record safety performance in 2004.

  • More in-depth Direct Green House Gas emissions information.

  • An expanded section providing performance data for each of PotashCorp's production sites.

  • More detail on energy consumption, water use and land reclamation.

  • Extensive comments from stakeholders about PotashCorp's values, performance and long-term commitment to issues important to them and other stakeholder groups.

The report was prepared using guidelines established by the United Nations sanctioned Global Reporting Initiative. Additional copies of the document can be ordered from PotashCorp's U.S. Administrative Headquarters in Northbrook, Illinois or viewed online at http://www.potashcorp.com/sustainability/reports/.

PotashCorp is the world's largest fertilizer enterprise producing the three primary plant nutrients and a leading supplier to three distinct market categories: agriculture, with the largest capacity in the world in potash, third largest in phosphate and fourth largest in nitrogen; animal nutrition, with the world's largest capacity in phosphate feed ingredients; and industrial chemicals, as the largest global producer of industrial nitrogen products and one of only three North American suppliers of industrial phosphates.
