Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) announced today that it is donating US $1 million to aid the humanitarian relief efforts in Southern Asia following last week's deadly earthquake and resulting tsunami. The funding, approved by the company's Board of Directors over the weekend, follows growing realization that the devastation may be the greatest natural tragedy in recorded history.

"PotashCorp feels compelled by the magnitude of humanitarian need in the affected countries to make this contribution," said Bill Doyle, PotashCorp President and CEO. "The victims of this tragic event need the compassion, prayers and financial aid of every individual, organization and nation that can help. Our company and employees are eager to do their part."

Doyle noted that PotashCorp has strong ties to Southern Asia with many friends and customers in the affected countries. "There is a close link between our primary business - agriculture - and human development," he emphasized. "Our company has worked closely with many of these countries to help them develop their food-production capabilities. This has resulted in a special kinship with the people who are enduring this tragedy and we are pleased to join the world community in helping them."

Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. is the world's largest fertilizer enterprise producing the three primary plant nutrients and a leading supplier to three distinct market categories: agriculture, with the largest capacity in the world in potash and third largest in phosphate and nitrogen; animal nutrition, with the world's largest capacity in phosphate feed ingredients; and industrial chemicals, as among the largest global producers of industrial nitrogen and industrial phosphate products.
