In collaboration with the Trusteeship Institute and the Lemelson Assistive Technology Development Center, Zform has begun development of free computer games that bring blind and sighted together through social play. The company is currently seeking technology and financial sponsors to support continued development.

“Modern games’ reliance on graphics to communicate to players has created a graphical divide that excludes the visually impaired,” said Jeremie Spitzer, Zform cofounder and CEO. “Zform games will conquer the Graphical Divide by using sound, graphics, and the Internet to allow people to play together regardless of visual impairment or geography.”

“Computer games are a very important part of our culture. Games, historically, have always been a way for people to socialize and better understand one another perspective,” said Colin Twitchell, Director of the Lemelson Assistive Technology Development Center (LATDC).

Zform is currently approaching corporate gifting departments, nonprofit organizations, and individuals for tax-deductible technological and financial donations to support the development of its accessible games at no cost to the user.

The Trusteeship Institute (TI) is a nonprofit that acts as an umbrella for socially responsible projects and businesses. Since its founding in 1973 by Terry Mollner, TI has helped form the Co-op America Foundation, New England Art Therapy Institute, and the Space Bridge Division (that facilitated the creation of two-way TV programs between Soviet and American citizens in the early 1980s), among many other programs.

“Zform games could have incredible impact in uniting the sighted and visually impaired communities. Zform has made significant headway in the field,” said Lauren Way, LATDC Project Director. The Lemelson Assistive Technology Development Center is a foundation whose mission is to help students build assistive technologies using the principles of Universal design.

Zform is a new software entertainment company focused on creating mass-market quality, social games that are fully accessible to both the blind and sighted communities. The company’s mission is to conquer the Graphical Divide, bringing together the visually impaired and sighted gaming communities through a socially responsible mission.
