In the aftermath of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Haworth and its members are expressing their sympathy and support for the day's victims, survivors and heroes with an immediate gift of $350,000 and a total commitment of up to $1 million toward rescue and recovery efforts.

"We suffer, struggle and heal together as a company, as a community, and as Americans. It is our honor and privilege to do all that we can to help America recover and rebuild," said Haworth President and Chief Executive Gerald Johanneson. "Our recovery efforts are given freely and immediately and address the critical needs of those affected by this tragedy."

Haworth has furniture on its way to the Pentagon and emergency government agencies working on the rescue and recovery efforts. In addition, the company is donating panels, desks, chairs and files that it has on hand.

Haworth has opened its offices, showrooms and warehouses in the New York area to those businesses who need new work quarters. An estimated 10 to 15 percent of New York's total office space has been destroyed or damaged.

As one of the largest manufacturers of contract office furniture in the world, Haworth is concentrating its global resources on helping affected businesses rebuild their workplaces.

"Our daily business is creating work environments," Johanneson said. "We are doing everything we can to help re-create the work environments in New York and at the Pentagon that were destroyed by terrorists."

To this end, Haworth has packaged a simple product offering that ships in five days. The west Michigan-based manufacturer has pledged to donate a percentage of this offering's sales up to a total of $1 million toward ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
