The Board of Directors of Best Western International on behalf of its hoteliers today approved a contribution of $100,000 to assist the American Red Cross with its national disaster relief efforts after last Tuesday’s devastating attack. In addition, through the company’s umbrella community service commitment -- Best Western for a Better World -- a special account has been established to accept voluntary donations from its member hotels, employees and guests throughout North America and around the world between now and October 31.

Best Western employees are encouraged to make contributions through payroll deductions or they may elect to donate paid vacation time. Members of Gold Crown Club International, Best Western’s frequent stay program, can convert points to cash; for every 50 points, two dollars will be donated to the relief fund.

"The outpouring of concern from Best Western hoteliers and employees around the world expressing their strong desire to help in any way possible has been overwhelming," said Best Western Chairwoman Cindy Binkele. "We are deeply touched by the fine example our members have set by quickly mobilizing and providing relief in the form of housing, monetary contributions and shipping supplies to the impacted areas," adds Binkele.

"We extend our heartfelt prayers and compassion to all whose lives have been forever scarred by a moment of unprecedented terror and devastation," said Jim Evans, Best Western president and CEO. "It’s time now to channel our collective resources to get this great nation of ours back to business by supporting those brave men and women in their heroic rescue efforts," Evans added.
