PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning, a PRIMEDIA company and the leading provider of distance learning solutions for more than 8 million professionals, announced today that it will donate its new bio-terrorism training programming as a part of its sponsorship to the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

This program, which focuses on educating emergency planning personnel, firefighters, law enforcement professionals and front line healthcare workers about the best methods to protect against and deal with bio-terrorism attacks, will be presented to all mayors in attendance at the "Mayors Emergency, Safety and Security Summit."

Since the events of September 11, PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning has focused on delivering timely, vital emergency response and preparedness information and training to first responder professionals and government services agencies, so they can better serve their public in this heightened time of need.

"Protecting America: Bio-Terror 101" is presented on CD-ROM and includes information on the most pressing issues surrounding the treatment of bio-terrorism and provides approaches to preparing for bio-terrorism attacks. The training includes the following:

-- The signs and symptoms of anthrax infection

-- The three types of anthrax, transmission modes and mortality rates including what type of clothing is needed to protect against exposure to anthrax

-- The recent Bio-Terror Disaster drill conducted in Colorado

PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning has been airing "Protecting America: Bio-Terror 101" on its Fire & Emergency Television Network (FETN), Law Enforcement Television Network (LETN) and Health & Sciences Television Network (HSTN).

"Terrorism has rapidly emerged as one of the greatest threats to our national security and is an incredibly concerning issue for mayors and cities across the country," said Josh Klarin, CEO of PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning. "Recognizing the need for a more integrated approach among various public safety organizations, PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning is dedicated to educating our nation's mayors about the most effective ways to deal with emergency response and preparation. We are proud to sponsor and donate this timely content to the Conference of Mayors and we look forward to working together with these public officials in the fight to protect America."

PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning will also be videotaping many sessions at the U.S. Conference of Mayors. This valuable information and training will be shared with PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning audiences and the "Protecting America" series will continue throughout 2001. Future topics include: terrorism, emergency response, chemical weapons, critical incident stress debriefing, resource management, hazardous materials, mass transit terrorism, patrol awareness, small pox threats, and much more.
