SOMERS, N.Y.--In a ceremony Wednesday at The Pepsi Bottling Group's (NYSE:PBG) Customer Service Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., the Company was presented with the 7th Annual Forsyth Business Outreach Work Life Award by the Honorable Allen Joines, Mayor of the City of Winston-Salem and Pamela Wyatt, Executive Director for Smart Start of Forsyth County.

The Forsyth Business Outreach Work Life Awards are presented annually to organizations in the Winston-Salem area that best exemplify family-friendly workplaces. Judging criteria include company policies related to employee communication, flexible work schedules, health benefits, dependent care and financial assistance. PBG received the award in the "large company" category.

"At The Pepsi Bottling Group, we feel it is our responsibility to provide an atmosphere that supports a positive work life balance," said Fran O'Rourke, Vice President for PBG's Pepsi Direct service. "This award is a testament not only to the policies and programs that help us maintain this balance, but also to the dedication and ownership our employees have demonstrated over the years to making PBG a great place to work."

In addition to maintaining an employee committee that regularly identifies opportunities to enhance work life policies, PBG was honored for programs such as child care referral services, financial assistance for adoption, elder care referral services, flexible work hours and comprehensive health care benefits. PBG was also noted for its employee communication procedures and for providing a wide range of on-site services.

The Forsyth Business Outreach Work Life Award is sponsored by Smart Start of Forsyth County and is supported by the Greater Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, the Work Family Resource Center of Winston-Salem and Elder Care Choices of Winston-Salem.

Smart Start of Forsyth County is the local chapter of Smart Start, a public-private initiative created in 1993 with a mission to ensure that every child in North Carolina arrives at school healthy and ready to succeed. Through 2003, Smart Start has provided training and education to more than 25,000 child care providers statewide, conducted nearly 160,000 health and language screenings and has provided health and safety training for more than 107,000 children.
