Consumers Can Now Find Design for the Environment Logo on SC Johnson Scrubbing Bubbles® Partnership Products
RACINE, Wis.-- Jan 24, 2007 -- SC Johnson announced today that the company’s Shout® liquid products have been designated as partnership products under The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) voluntary Design for the Environment (DfE) program. Partnership products exemplify the company’s commitment to continually improve the health and environmental profile of its products.
Shout® products designated under the partnership include all sizes and refills for Shout® Trigger Laundry Stain Remover and Shout™ Citrus Action.
In November 2005, SC Johnson announced it was the first major consumer packaged goods company to partner with the EPA on the DfE program. The program encourages individual companies and industry sectors to compare and improve the performance, human health profile and environmental risks of products, processes and practices. SC Johnson’s initial partnership products included Shower Shine® Daily Shower Cleaner by Scrubbing Bubbles® and Scrubbing Bubbles® Soap Scum Remover with Orange Action™.
The wide-ranging partnership recognizes SC Johnson’s long-standing commitment to strive to formulate its products with environmentally preferable ingredients. It also makes provisions for the company to work with EPA chemists, environmental scientists and risk reduction staff in investigating materials that can further improve the health and environmental profiles of the company’s products
“SC Johnson is very pleased to be able continue the DfE partnership with the EPA as it underscores our longstanding commitment to bring consumers environmentally responsible products that work,” said Scott Johnson, SC Johnson’s Vice President of Global Environmental Affairs and Safety Actions. “We encourage more companies to become involved in the DfE program and to integrate more environmentally responsible solutions into everyday business practices.”
As part of the partnership, the Shout® liquid products will be able to display the DfE logo on the packaging. SC Johnson recently added the DfE logo to the packaging of the Scrubbing Bubbles® partnership products. The logo, which appears on the front and back of the packaging was issued by EPA to help consumers identify products that have a more positive health and environmental profile than those typically found in many conventional cleaning products. The logo, which features a globe, appears with the words, “Formulated in Partnership with the Design for the Environment Program.”
To certify and advance its commitment to using environmentally preferred raw materials, SC Johnson in recent years voluntarily developed an innovative Greenlist™ process, a patented system that ensures company’s products contain materials that are the best available for the environment and consumers without compromising performance, aesthetics or cost to consumers. The process goes beyond the normal risk assessments and regulatory requirements to evaluate each raw material in every SC Johnson product. In 2006, the Greenlist™ process was recognized with the Ron Brown Award for Corporate Leadership and the Presidential Green Chemistry Award.
Led by the Johnson family for five generations, SC Johnson has held steadfast to its environmental commitment and spirit of innovation. From being a pioneer in the introduction of water-based aerosols in 1955 to its leadership as the first company to remove chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) from all aerosol products – three years ahead of the 1978 U.S. mandate – SC Johnson continues to look for innovative ways to safeguard our shared environment. Recently, the company completed a “green energy” project. The co-generation project uses waste methane and natural gas-powered turbines to deliver 6.4 megawatts of electricity and nearly 40,000 pounds per hour of plant steam to its largest global manufacturing facility. As a result, SC Johnson is significantly reducing its usage of heavily-coal dependent electricity along with emissions of carbon dioxide, greenhouse gases and other pollutants.
