NEW YORK, New York - Christian Brothers Investment Services, Inc. (CBIS), a leading investment management firm serving the Catholic institutional market, announced today that new rankings by Pensions & Investments magazine indicate that it is the nation's largest institutional money manager that exclusively follows a socially responsible investment approach. In its "2002 Money Managers Directory" issue, the magazine published a listing of the largest money managers across a range of categories. The survey results, available online at www.pionline.com, included the following:

CBIS, with approximately $2.8 billion in assets under management (as of 12/31/01), was the largest money manager listed that exclusively follows a socially responsible investment approach in managing tax-exempt institutional assets.

CBIS' rankings in the Pension & Investments survey included the following:

- CBIS was ranked 29th out of 78 "managers of managers." CBIS engages eleven institutional asset managers as sub-advisors in the management of all its assets.

- CBIS was ranked 250th out of 500 asset managers ranked by US institutional tax-exempt assets under management.

- CBIS was ranked 304th out of 753 asset managers ranked by total worldwide assets under management.

In addition, several institutional asset managers that CBIS engages as sub-advisors ranked in the top 100 by total worldwide assets under management, including BlackRock (#12), Capital Guardian (#29), Wellington (#33), Dresdner (#53) and Dodge & Cox (#55).

"Because we have grown to a certain size," says Brother Michael O'Hern, FSC, President & CEO of CBIS, "we are able to offer Catholic institutions a socially responsible investment program integrated with premier institutional asset management firms and the economies of scale associated with larger money management firms."

CBIS is an investment manager serving Catholic organizations - dioceses, religious orders, health care providers and educational institutions - interested in pursuing socially responsible investment strategies. CBIS offers separately managed accounts and a diversified family of nine fixed-income and equity funds. Its socially responsible investing programs focus on what it calls "active ownership" - voting proxies, entering into dialogue and filing shareholder resolutions to promote better corporate governance and greater social and environmental responsibility on the part of companies whose shares it owns.

"Our approach is to integrate faith and finance in promoting the responsible stewardship of Catholic resources," says Don Platner, CBIS Vice President & Head of Business Development. "By responsible stewardship, we simply mean that faith-based investors want their investments to be both financially sound and socially responsible."

"The CBIS combination of socially responsible investment advice, premier institutional asset managers, diversified product offerings and careful risk-control strategies, constitutes a unique investment approach particularly suited to Catholic institutions and their fiduciaries," concludes Platner. "It is this unique positioning in the institutional market that is really fueling our growth."
