SPRINGFIELD, MA - August 26, 2008 - It is not uncommon around the CSRwire offices to hear President Joe Sibilia lauding the unique or innovative efforts of one organization or another. "These guys really got it! Have you seen what they are up to? Who's talking to them? Why can't we give 'em some juice? What can we do for them?!"

We are fortunate at CSRwire to be at the exciting hub where the good works of dozens of organizations get announced each day. We are energized every time we see releases like the one from the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre about their initiative encouraging more companies to adopt human rights policies, or the one from TechnoServe, an organization that works with people in the developing world to build businesses, announcing a new grant from Microsoft. The news releases that come across the wire run the CSR gamut-addressing environmental, sustainability, corporate governance and philanthropic issues. But the one thing they have in common is that the efforts are always led by creative, enthusiastic, and passionate professionals who believe, as we do, that companies should be measured by their social and environmental returns as well as their financial performance.

It has long been our goal to better highlight organizations working on behalf of corporate social responsibility. Now, our new "Member Spotlight" allows us to do just that. Beginning September 2nd, we'll be doing in-depth interviews with our members and then featuring them on CSRwire. It is a thrill for us to be able to shine some extra light on an organization's new initiatives, learn more about their sustainable business practices, and discuss some of the challenges and obstacles they face. By featuring our members, we are also contributing to creating more of a community, all of us learning a bit more about what we are doing and how we are doing it.

The international network Circle of Blue will be kicking off CSRwire’s new "Member Spotlight." Last week was World Water Week, and the Circle of Blue network of "leading journalists, scientists and communications designers are at the forefront of reporting and presenting the information necessary to respond" to the global water crisis. Their brand new initiative, the Aspen Design Challenge is an open call to students to use their creative talent and strategic design skills to redefine how we communicate and respond to water issues.

On deck for October (Fair Trade month, mark your calendars!) is Equal Exchange, one of the oldest and most successful cooperatives in the world. Equal Exchange, has been working to change the way food is grown, bought, and sold around the world for more than 20 years, and it is going stronger than ever.

Next up, we'll be bringing you interviews from the United Nations Global Compact, the largest corporate citizen initiative in the world and PCI-Media Impact, whose award-winning radio programs have been empowering communities in the developing world for the last decade.

And this is only the beginning.

Please get in touch with us if you'd like to nominate an organization for this CSRwire member spotlight and stay tuned for more!
