CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Around the world companies are forming partnerships with non-profit organizations, government agencies and citizen groups as a way to solve pressing social problems. But finding common ground among diverse partners can be a challenge. The Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College has set out to make it easier.

The Center’s Corporate-Community Partnerships: What Makes Them Work, Why They Fail explores what it means to be a part of a cross-sector partnership. The program looks at different partnership models, identifying appropriate partners, and developing a shared vision with those partners. It uses case-studies, group problem-solving exercises, peer coaching and guest speakers to help business professionals learn to develop and manage a true partnership, and improve relationships with key stakeholders. It is appropriate for managers from corporate and field locations involved with sustained, collaborative partnerships with advocacy groups, fenceline neighbors, citizen groups, service agencies and governments.

Instructor Lawrence E. Moore, Ph.D. has nearly two decades of experience in the design, development and implementation of corporate social responsibility programs. As Director of Communications & Public Affairs for a $1.7-billion global business unit of Motorola, he helped the company forge a link between Baldrige-related Performance Excellence goals and The Center's Standards of Excellence. His experience includes senior management roles in external communications, issues management, corporate philanthropy, employee communications, media relations, and public affairs.

This seminar is one of 14 offerings from The Center through its executive education program. Seminars cover planning, strategy, program development, implementation, communications, evaluation, leadership development and competency building, leading to a Certificate awarded by the Boston College Carroll School of Management. The Center also offers courses at company sites on request, and can customize its offerings to address companies' specific challenges and needs.
