CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College and Net Impact—with help from Clorox, The Coca-Cola Company, Deloitte & Touche, Prudential Financial, and Safeco—are sending a message to tomorrow's business leaders that corporate citizenship is an important value in today's companies.

Clorox, The Coca-Cola Company, Deloitte & Touche, Prudential Financial, and Safeco are the 2003 corporate sponsors of The Center for Corporate Citizenship's Best MBA Paper in Corporate Citizenship contest. The annual award is offered for the best paper on corporate citizenship by an MBA student or group of students. The writer of the winning paper receives a $5,000 award, with $1,000 awarded to the faculty sponsor.

The MBA Competition is sponsored by corporations with the hope of increasing awareness and interest about corporate social responsibility amongst the next generation of CEOs and business leaders. The corporations supporting this project are sending a message that research and knowledge in this area are important to our nation's leading corporations.

The winning paper is published in the Journal of Corporate Citizenship, on the Aspen Institute's CasePlace.org, and on the web sites of The Center and Net Impact. The award is presented at the Academy of Management annual conference.

The 2003 competition received the highest number of submissions ever on a wide variety of paper topics ranging from the environment to corporate governance. The 2003 winner is Jessica Brinkman, from the University of Michigan Business School, for her paper, Does Corporate Social Responsibility Lead to Improved Financial Performance? An Analysis of the Electric Utility Industry.

Two papers received honorable mentions: Wireless Handsets on the Hook, a team paper by Elizabeth Givens, Maile Jedinsky, Heidi Natkin, Rachel Payne, and Marcella Kanfer Rolnick from the Stanford Graduate School of Business; and External Pressure, Internal Change: The Importance of Monitoring the Establishment of Industry Norms, by Dima Reda from Yale School of Management.

All of the winning papers can be downloaded from The Center's web site at www.bc.edu/centers/ccc/Pages/kn_mba_2003.html.
