The House-passed home energy conservation measures included in landmark energy legislation now pending in a House-Senate conference will provide powerful incentives for millions of home owners, renters and buyers to conserve energy and save hundreds of dollars annually on utility bills. With the summer season rapidly approaching, many families are facing their highest monthly energy bills of the year. This is why it is important that Congress acts quickly to approve the home energy measures in the House bill and send the final energy legislation to the White House for President Bush to sign into law.

The housing provisions in House energy bill H.R. 4 provide consumers a significantly enhanced tax benefit than those in the Senate legislation. They would enable more households to engage in voluntary measures to conserve energy. The House energy bill would also encourage more home builders to seek technological advances that increase energy efficiency. It represents a huge step forward in promoting energy conservation in new and existing homes, reducing the nation's energy dependence and lowering energy costs for American home owners and renters for decades.
